A three-year-old male elephant calf tragically died after coming into contact with a live wire in Jakkahalli Hobli, within the Kundukere range of Bandipur Tiger Reserve, located in Chamarajanagar district. The forest department has filed cases against four individuals in connection with the incident, with charges under the Electricity Act and the Wildlife Protection Act. The incident occurred on Tuesday when the calf encountered an illegal electric connection to a nearby farm. Forest authorities discovered the calf’s body inside the farm. The farm is reportedly owned by Sheriyar Khan, a resident of Koramangala in Bengaluru. Senior forest officials, including Deputy Conservator of Forests and Director of Bandipur Tiger Reserve, S. Prabhakaran, visited the site to assess the situation.
