In a remarkable act of self-reliance, villagers of Kaduhola in Besatta, Hanur taluk, have begun constructing a road with their own funds after repeated appeals to the district administration were ignored.

The residents, frustrated by the Gram Panchayat’s unwillingness to take up the project, decided to take matters into their own hands. For years, devotees traveling to the sacred Kodugallu site to worship Madappa had to rely on an uneven village path.

The lack of a proper road has caused immense hardship for over 100 families who depend on daily wage work at Mahadeshwara Hill. Children too have struggled to reach their schools and colleges.

Villagers pointed out that the absence of infrastructure has created a life-threatening situation. In medical emergencies, ambulances have been unable to reach the area on time, putting lives at risk.

Social worker Snehajeevi Raj criticized the administration’s apathy and called on elected representatives to wake up to the plight of the people. “It is shameful that citizens have to spend their own money to get a basic road. The authorities must act immediately to ensure safe and dignified access,” he said.

The villagers say their effort is not just about convenience but about restoring their right to live safely and access essential services without fear. Their initiative has inspired neighboring hamlets to consider similar action if officials continue to ignore their needs.
