Gangavathi: A tragic incident occurred in Budagumpa-Halasamudra village of Karatagi taluk, Koppal district, where three cattle suddenly collapsed and died after consuming fodder and drinking water.

Two bulls and a buffalo calf owned by farmer Shivbassappa Sahari succumbed to health problems that followed. Fortunately, a veterinarian managed to save a fourth cow through timely medical intervention.

The cause of the incident is suspected to be chemical poisoning. According to the farmer, after feeding his cattle in the morning, they drank water from a nearby source. Within minutes, two cows and the buffalo calf began exhibiting symptoms such as bleeding, diarrhoea, and difficulty breathing. Despite the efforts of the veterinarian, the three animals unfortunately did not survive.

The deceased cattle are estimated to be worth ₹2 lakh, and their loss has dealt a significant blow to the farmer’s family. The family relied on these cattle for farming their 10 acres of land and for their livelihood.

The animal husbandry department has announced compensation of ₹10,000 to ₹30,000 for each of the deceased cattle. The department is also investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the deaths and to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
