A 32-year-old woman working as a water security resource person with FES, an NGO based in Sidlaghatta, died after drowning at a private resort in Chintadapi village under unclear circumstances on February 23.
The deceased, identified as Rekha, is survived by her husband, Raja KV, 36, a resident of Kundalagurki village in Chintamani taluk.
Drowned during workshop visit
According to reports, Rekha had gone to Nature Resort in Chintadapi to attend a two-day workshop organised by the NGO FES on February 23 and 24. She had left home on the morning of February 23 and participated in sessions until around 6.30 pm.
Later in the evening, she reportedly went swimming along with five colleagues. Her husband alleged that he received a phone call from the team head, Gopi, informing him that Rekha had drowned while swimming.
She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
Family alleges negligence
Raja has alleged foul play and gross negligence, demanding a thorough investigation into the incident. He accused both the FES authorities and the resort management of failing to ensure adequate safety arrangements.
He urged police to initiate strict action against those found responsible.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances leading to her death. Officials said statements are being recorded and details regarding safety measures at the resort are being examined.
The tragic incident has left the local community in shock, with many calling for greater accountability and stricter safety norms at training venues and recreational facilities.
