A tragic accident occurred on Friday near Hunegal village, on the outskirts of Chikkaballapur, when a boulder-laden truck crashed into a CNG-loaded truck, resulting in the death of a 45-year-old truck driver and injuries to another.
The incident unfolded when the driver of the CNG truck, Narasimhamurthy, 45, slowed down to take a U-turn toward the industrial area. At that moment, a truck carrying boulders lost control and collided with the CNG truck. The impact caused both vehicles to overturn, followed by an explosion and a subsequent fire.
Hearing the explosion, local villagers rushed to the scene and, with the help of police, managed to rescue both truck drivers from the burning wreckage. The injured, Narasimhamurthy and Madappan, 60, from Dharmapuri, were immediately transported to the hospital. Despite efforts to save him, Narasimhamurthy succumbed to his injuries on Saturday at Victoria Hospital.
The crash caused significant traffic disruption on the busy NH7 for over two hours, as emergency personnel worked to clear the overturned vehicles and prevent further damage.
A case has been filed against Madappan for death due to negligence and reckless driving, and investigations are ongoing.
