Chikkamagaluru: A 35-year-old wild elephant lost its life after being electrocuted at Tanigebail, Lingadahalli hobli, in Tarikere taluk. The unfortunate incident took place on Tuesday morning when the elephant accidentally came into contact with a live power line running through Sandhya Coffee Estate.

The high-voltage wire, supplying electricity to Nandigave and Dandubittahara villages, proved fatal when the elephant approached a jackfruit tree to feast on its fruit. Tragically, it touched the exposed wire nearby and succumbed instantly.

Authorities from the Bhadra Wildlife Division, led by Range Forest Officer Sudhakar Nayak and ACF Santosh Sagar, along with Lingadahalli Police Station Officer Shashikumar and MESCOM Engineer Tippesh, arrived at the site to investigate the accident.

Such incidents highlight the urgent need for wildlife-friendly infrastructure to prevent further loss of animal lives due to electrocution hazards.
