Heavy Rainfall Causes Disruptions in Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, and Dakshina Kannada
Chikkamagaluru and Madikeri have been heavily impacted by continuous rainfall since Monday night, leading to severe flooding of roads and bridges. The district administration has responded by declaring a holiday for schools and colleges in five affected taluks: Kalasa, Mudigere, Koppa, N R Pura, and Sringeri. The inundation has rendered the Balehonnur-Magundi road impassable, and River Bhadra is flowing across roads at Teppadagundi and Bairegudda, halting vehicular movement. Additionally, the Sringeri-Karkala road near Nemmar is submerged under approximately four feet of water, further complicating travel.
In neighboring Kodagu district, heavy rainfall has intensified, with significant downpours reported in Bhagamandala, Sampaje, Emmemadu, and Madikeri. Consequently, the district administration has also declared a holiday for schools and PU colleges to ensure safety.
Dakshina Kannada district is not spared, with heavy rain and strong winds affecting various areas. The water levels in rivers Nethravathi and Mrityunjaya have surged in Belthangady, prompting the administration to announce a holiday for schools in the taluk.
The situation remains critical as the heavy rains continue, causing widespread disruptions and necessitating caution among residents.
