In Chikkamagaluru district, Karnataka, the forest department is implementing new measures to control the influx of trekkers to Kudremukh and Netravati peaks. Starting from Tuesday, only 300 trekkers per day will be allowed, with tickets available for advance purchase online. This decision follows overcrowding incidents on weekends, where thousands of trekkers and tourists have overwhelmed the mountainous regions.

Each individual can book up to three trekking tickets, and homestays in the area will also receive a quota to sell tickets to their guests. The forest department conducted a thorough study to determine the optimal capacity for each trekking destination, aiming to preserve the natural environment while promoting sustainable tourism.

Despite positive reception from environmental activists, concerns have been raised about internet connectivity issues affecting the online ticketing system, particularly by local operators. Efforts are underway to address these challenges to ensure the new system operates effectively and fairly for all stakeholders involved.
