A series of targeted thefts involving Yamaha RX100 and RX135 motorcycles have been reported in Chikkamagaluru’s Narasimharaja Pura taluk, with two incidents occurring within 20 days. The motorcycles, although no longer in production, remain highly sought after by young enthusiasts, leading to an increase in organized thefts.

The thieves have demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the area, particularly targeting rural locations with a few parked RX bikes while bypassing other models. Despite the presence of guard dogs at many residences, such as in Hantuvani village, the thieves have managed to steal the bikes. In one instance, they towed the vehicle before kick-starting it and took alternative routes towards Shivamogga to avoid detection.

In Bellur village, a similar incident occurred when thieves stole an RX135 from a car shed. Surveillance footage from the scene shows two individuals arriving on a scooter, lifting the bike, and fleeing. The police are actively investigating the incidents, with NR Pura police sub-inspector Niranjan Gowda confirming that checkposts have been established at the border to track down the thieves.

Mechanic Raghavendra stated that RX bikes are highly valuable, ranging between Rs 80,000 to Rs 1 lakh, due to their smooth ride and distinct features, making them a target for dedicated collectors.
