Forest department officials on Tuesday successfully captured a wild elephant that had caused panic in and around Balehonnur in Chikkamagaluru district. The operation was launched early in the morning following two recent deaths caused by elephant attacks in the region over the past six days.
A team comprising forest staff, veterinary doctors, and trained elephants was deployed for the mission. Deputy Conservator of Forests (Koppa division) Shivashankar confirmed that the tusker was tranquilised and captured near Devdana village. It has since been shifted to the Sakrebailu Elephant Camp in Shivamogga.
“Further action will be decided in consultation with senior officials,” he added.
