Dress Code Chaos at Chitradurga NEET Centre Sparks Outrage
Chitradurga: Several NEET aspirants faced distress at the Government Science College exam centre after being denied entry for wearing jeans, triggering a last-minute scramble by parents to arrange alternative clothes.
In a move that shocked many, the exam staff also instructed candidates to remove sacred threads tied around their wrists, necks, and ankles, citing strict dress code rules.
Students arriving in jeans were stunned to learn they wouldn’t be allowed inside. Their families rushed to nearby shops to buy new outfits to ensure their children could appear for the crucial examination.
In another controversial move, female students wearing nose studs had tape placed over them. Even belts and shoes were barred from the premises, leading to piles of personal belongings being left outside the centre.
Images of discarded items—including torn shirt sleeves, sacred threads, footwear, and belts—circulated widely on social media, sparking criticism over the lack of sensitivity and the handling of dress code enforcement.
The incident has ignited debate about balancing security with respect for personal dignity and religious symbols during exams.
