Govind Karjol Wins Chitradurga Lok Sabha Seat For Bjp

Former Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol of the BJP secured a victory in the Chitradurga Lok Sabha seat with a margin of 48,121 votes. Karjol received 6,84,890 votes, defeating Congress candidate B N Chandrappa, who garnered 6,36,769 votes.

Karjol replaced MP and Union Minister of State for Social Welfare and Empowerment A Narayanaswamy as the BJP candidate from Chitradurga. The 73-year-old, hailing from Vijayapura district, has been a five-term member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Mudhol constituency in Bagalkote district. He has held various ministerial portfolios in BJP governments and served as the party’s state Vice President and Deputy leader of Opposition in the Assembly. Previously, he was affiliated with the Janata Dal.

In the 2023 Assembly polls, Karjol was defeated by Congress’ R B Timmapur, who is currently a Minister in the Siddaramaiah-led government.
