Man killed in Chitradurga over elopement and marriage with younger woman
A 40-year-old man, Manjunath from Konanuru village near Chitradurga city, was brutally murdered by his wife’s family after he eloped and married their 20-year-old daughter. Six family members have been arrested, and FIRs have been filed against 20 individuals.
Manjunath, who had a prior marriage, was jailed for abetment of his first wife Shilpa’s suicide. After his release, he began an affair with the young woman, leading to their marriage at a temple 20 days ago. The woman’s family, feigning acceptance, lured Manjunath to their house under the pretense of arranging a formal wedding. Once he arrived, they attacked him with sticks and iron rods, killing him.
The incident also left Manjunath’s parents injured in the assault, and they are currently hospitalized. An audio recording has surfaced, allegedly of the woman pressuring Manjunath to take her with him, threatening self-harm otherwise.
Chitradurga SP Ranjith Kumar Bandaru has confirmed the arrests and stated that further investigations are underway to locate the remaining accused.
