A devastating hit-and-run incident in Karnataka’s Chitradurga district resulted in the tragic death of a woman attempting to cross the road at night. Identified as Ananthamma, a resident of K. Rayapura village in Kudligi taluk, she had been working at a coffee estate in Sakleshpur for over a decade and was en route to her hometown for Shivaratri festivities.

The accident unfolded near Basapura village in Molakalmuru taluk. Moments after stepping off a KSRTC bus near a highway bridge, Ananthamma attempted to cross the road towards Rampura Village. Suddenly, a speeding car, reportedly traveling from Ballari to Challakere, struck her forcefully, launching her into the air and causing fatal injuries. The driver fled the scene without stopping.

Disturbing visuals of the accident have surfaced, showing the impact that led to Ananthamma’s instantaneous death due to severe trauma to her head and legs.

Local police, led by Rampura PSI Mahesh Lakshman Hospet, visited the crash site and initiated an investigation. Efforts are underway to track down the vehicle responsible for the hit-and-run.

The incident has reignited concerns over reckless driving and pedestrian safety, especially on highways lacking proper crossing infrastructure. Authorities are urging witnesses to come forward with any information.
