Mandya: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that the state government would initiate additional work on the Bangalore-Mysore Expressway, allocating Rs 158.81 crore for the project. The decision came after the CM inspected the expressway on Saturday, considering the increasing frequency of accidents.
Addressing the media afterwards, he highlighted the absence of speed detectors along the expressway as a contributing factor to the rising number of accidents. Proposing a solution, he suggested the installation of speed detectors every 10 kilometres, which could potentially reduce accidents significantly.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister informed that a proposal has been forwarded to the union for service road works on the expressway. The developmental efforts will focus on Bidadi, Ramnagar, Channapatna, Maddur, Mandya, and Srirangapatna bypass roads, with a deadline set to complete the entry and exit roads by March.
Touching upon the Udupi College case, CM Siddaramaiah reassured that the police have already registered an FIR, and a thorough investigation will be carried out, followed by appropriate action in accordance with the law.
During the inspection of the Bangalore-Mysore Expressway, the Chief Minister was joined by Minister Chaluvanarayanaswamy, ADGP Alok Kumar, and other officials. The discussion also encompassed the steps taken by the police department to prevent accidents, including the implementation of cameras to detect speeding and enforce penalties for traffic rule violations. Representatives from the National Highways Authority were also present during the review.
