Bhatkal: Muslim community from Bhatkal feels that they are being unnecessarily targeted by security agencies with attempts made to make Bhatkal synonymous with terrorism.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which recently picked up Ismail Musab Abdul Rawoof from Bhatkal for his alleged links to the Islamic State (IS) and later released him citing “mistaken identity” as the reason.

The security agencies have defended their move saying that many youths from the town have been found with links with terror groups.

Sources from security agencies say that the men like Riyaz and Yasin were from Bhataka who were a part of Indian Mujahideen, the terror outfit. The town’s strong Gulf connection also throws it open for suspicion.

The aggrieved residents of Bhatkal feel that security agencies are project Bhatkal as a terror hub.
