Karwar: Police have arrested 8 accused in connection with the house burglaries and other cases theft all over Uttara Kannada district. In all, Rs 19 lakh worth jewelleries and other assets have been seized from the accused.
The arrested have been identified as Prashanth Kishor Naik (23) of the Bobrawada village of Ankola taluk Harsha Nagendra Naik (22) of Tenkanakeri, Rahul Krishnanand Banta (22) of Kenj, Ganesh Maruthi Naik (24) of Shirkuli, Srikanth Ganapathi Devadiga (27), Nihal Gopalakrishna Devali (26) and Sandeep Hanumanth Marati (25), all residents of residents of Kasturba Nagar, Sirsi Taluk. The eight accused apart, the jeweller from Banavasi, Ashok Raikar (40), who bought the looted jewelleries has been arrested.
The eight people arrested have been involved in 5 cases under Gokarna, 11 under Ankola and 2 under Karwar police station limits. The assets seized include 351 grams of gold jewelleries, 1 kilograms of silverware, 5 gas cylinders, eight mobile phones, and 3 motor bikes.
The frequent theft cases in Gokarna, Ankola and Karwar surroundings had posed a challenge to police in the district and now the investigating team has been successful in nabbing the culprits.
