Bhatkal: The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Bhatkal shot up to eight on Tuesday afternoon.

A 26-year-old youth from Bhatkal has tested positive for COVID-19. He is the brother of one of the persons who tested positive for the infection earlier.

It is said that the siblings had reached the Goa airport from Dubai on March 20 and later, travelled to Bhatkal by road.

The news has unleashed a sense of fear across the district.

It may be recalled that the district administration had placed the Bhatkal taluk under a health emergency recently and had urged the people to come out and reveal their travel history or the details of the people who have travel history in their families.

Bhatkal has become a sensitive area in the state as about 40 per cent of the people in the taluk have relatives living abroad.
