Karwar: Dandeli Horata Samithi President Ajith Naik was hacked to death by unidentified miscreants outside his office at JN Road here on Friday, July 27.
An advocate by profession, Naik had been at the forefront of the struggle for a separate Dandeli Taluk.
Reportedly, the miscreants assaulted Naik with lethal weapons, inflicting serious injuries on his neck and chest before fleeing from the spot. Locals who found Naik lying in a pool of blood rushed him to the hospital immediately where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.
He is survived by his wife and two children.
A political disciple of late S Bangarappa and Margaret Alva, Naik had previously served as President of the Municipal Council and president of the Dandeli Taluk Formation Committee and Dandeli Block Congress President. He had even contested the recently held Assembly elections after resignation from the post of Municipal Council member.
