Karwar: “Even though the cases pertaining to the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes’ (ST) land are still in the court, apt solutions will be provided from the district administration’s side,” said Deputy Commissioner Dr Harishkumar K.

Chairing the meeting on exploitation of the SC/ST awareness and the in-charge committee on Tuesday, he said, “The district administration is already giving away all the facilities to the SC/ST community. Although some of the SC/ST land-related criminal cases are in the court, the district administration, from its side, will see to it that solutions are being found. An inspection under the leadership of the Zilla Panchayat CEO will be conducted to ensure that there is an end to the problems faced by the SC/ST communities in the villages.”

Directing the concerned officials, he said, “Without having to wait for orders from the hierarchy, the concerned officials shall file an FIR against those who perpetrate atrocities against the SC/ST communities. The social welfare department is already sanctioning relief for those who have been victims of atrocities. Such issues should be frequently tracked. The district administration has received grievances stating that the funds allotted for the SC/ST students are not reaching on time. If such complaints are received on a regular basis in the future, educational institutions will be put in charge under the social welfare department to look after the optimum utilization of the SC/ST funds.”

Meanwhile, Dr Harishkumar directed the officials to inform the officials of the Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement, Mangaluru to chair a review meeting on the problems and solution regarding the SC/ST communities.

Superintendent of Police Shivprakash Devaraju, assistant director of district social welfare department S Purushotham and other officials were present.
