Karwar: The district administration has taken a special initiative of distributing voter identity cards to the millennials in the deep sea to attract youth voters, for the first time in the country.
The district administration held this unique programme on the instructions of the Election Commission to attract young voters. The move is to draw young voters to cast their votes in the ensuing assembly elections in the state this year as well as Loksabha elections scheduled next year. India has the highest percentage of voters in the 18-35 age group in the world.
Deputy Commissioner S S Nakul distributed 6 Elector’s Photo identity cards (EPIC) by scuba diving near the lighthouse here.
Zilla Panchayath Chief Executive Officer L Chandrasekhar Nayak and others were present on the occasion.
