Karwar: The demand to name Central Sanskrit University campus in Shringeri against Saint Shankaracharya’s name instead of the current – Rajiv Gandhi campus is appropriate, said Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shobha Karandlaje.

She was speaking to media persons at Kaigadi Village of Ankola in Uttara Kannada District. “I will bring this to the notice of the State and Central Government. If the State Government submits a proposal to Centre, then I will try to exert pressure at Centre’s Culture Department to look into the same, she assured.

Answering a query on demolition of religious structures, Karandlaje said that before such eviction the locals should be taken into confidence. Also, as much as possible an alternate arrangement to relocate the temples or religious structures should be made, and if at all illegal then taking public into confidence becomes very necessary, she added.
