Karwar: Pahare Vedike Activists, who have been carrying out cleanliness drives in various parts of the City for the past eight years, drew attention by cleaning the garbage along the National Highway near Kali Bridge.

Pahare Vedike Activists have started a cleanliness drive along the Highway to create awareness about the National Highway as it looks like garbage dumping centre on sides.

In this regard, a team of guards carried out a cleanliness drive in the area near Kali Bridge in Sadashivagada as a heap of garbage had fallen there and hampered the beauty of the area.

In the second week of the cleanliness drive near Kali Bridge, Pahare Vedike Activists cleaned the place off heaps of bottles, plastic, glass pieces, hazardous e-waste and plants thrown down from the Bridge. Apart from this, there is still a lot of garbage and the Kali Bridge is a place that attracts tourists coming to Karwar and it is the responsibility of everyone to keep such a place beautiful. They urged the District Administration to look into the matter.

Speaking on the occasion, Pahare Vedike President Nagaraj Nayak said that it would create confusion as to whether the area that comes after the completion of Kali Bridge will come under the Municipal corporation or Chittakula Panchayat. If CCTV cameras are installed at the garbage dumping site and cases are registered, the menace will be curbed. They are throwing dangerous e-waste. The bottle/glass pieces may pierce those who come to the Bridge to see the beauty of nature, he said. He also opined that the highway work has been completed and if a park is built in this area, chances of dumping garbage will also be curtailed.
