Karwar: “Children are sent to English Medium schools even if they can’t teach english at home. This is not good for the future of children. Those who were educated in their mother tongue too have risen to a better position, said Legislative Council Speaker Basavaraj Horatti.
He was speaking at a programme conducted on the role of teachers in alleviating the fear of examinations among children and the Chairmanship and Retired teachers and SSLC result analysis programme held under the title of educational conference at District Theatre in the City on Saturday March 11. “The education system cannot grow only through private institutions. Earlier when I was the Education Minister, we had advertised that we would provide financial assistance to those who start an educational institution, privately.
That is why a lot of private educational institutions have come up today. Thousands of teachers have also got jobs,” he said. Earlier, the children were allowed to write in three hours what they had practiced throughout the year. But now the system has changed, he said and added that exams are being conducted at every stage of children’s learning and emphasis is being laid on value-based and life-oriented education. “If you look at the struggles of today’s Government employees, it seems that the teachers who retired earlier are the most blessed as they are in a position to get a good pension and live with head held high in the society without the help of their family and children.
On the occasion, retired teachers of schools in Karwar taluk and students who scored good marks in SSLC examinations were felicitated.
