Karwar: One person was killed and at least 15 others were injured in a ghastly head-on collision between a KSRTC bus and a canter on the Arabail Ghat section of the National Highway 63 at Yallapura near here on Saturday, August 11.
Due to the impact, the driver of the canter, whose identity is yet to be known, was crushed to death on the spot.
The canter which was moving from Hubballi towards Karwar tried to overtake another vehicle and crashed into the oncoming bus, witnesses said. In the impact, the cabin of the canter was completely crushed, beyond recognition.
Several passengers on the bus were injured in the impact. The injured have been identified as Lakmana (26), Vannil (25), Gobindo (25), Surendra V Naik (46), Prasanna (32), Poornima (28), Rinova (32), Zakira (28), Indira (46), Gopal (32) and Kaustubha (34). All the injured were taken to a hospital in Yallapur for medical treatment.
A case is registered at the Yallapur Police Station in this regard.
