Karwar: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is responsible for the probe outcome and people cannot exert pressure on the state government to hasten the same after the case has been taken over by the nation’s premiere investigating agency, State Minister for Heavy and Medium Industries R V Deshpande said.
Minister Deshpande was responding to media queries over the tardy progress in the Paresh Mestha probe after CBI took up the investigation. The state government cannot push the Centre on this issue and the union minister should take the responsibility, Deshpande stated. The elected representatives who are actually fidgety before elections are not concerned about people’s real problems, he added taking a dig at BJP and Union Minister Ananth Kumar Hegde.
None should incite or support communal violence but everyone should stand up for justice and unite over development of the state, Deshpande advised.
Responding on the circular sent to district police heads over dropping cases in specific instances where minorities, farmers and others are involved, Deshpande said the ultimate decision would be taken in consultation with judicial experts only after the charges were found false. This is done in certain cases, where representations come from people and organisations for their release, said Deshpande defending his government’s move. Once police register a complaint, the government cannot drop cases easily, he reminded at the same time.
He took exception to the Election Commission meddling in the transfers effected by the state government and remained hopeful of the Commission withdrawing its order over the issue.
