IGP refutes rumours

Honnavar: The IGP Western Range Hemant Nimbalkar has urged the general public to not pay heed to various rumours making rounds in connection to death of Paresh Mesta from Honnavar.

The IGP Western Range has released a press note clarifying that on December 9, members of a political party circulated messages in connection to the case without any authentication claiming that Mesta was tortured to death.

He said that the messages may have been sent deliberately to flare up the issue and fuel communal violence. The investigating officers are probing into the same, said the IGP adding that the autopsy report of Mesta stands in contradiction to the various claims made by a certain section in the social media.

The IGP has lashed out at a political party that called for a bundh on Monday and said that proper action will be initiated as per the law against the people who have abetted the communal incidents in Honnavar including the assault on public servants on duty at Kumta on December 11.

A letter was sent to Kasturba Medical College, Manipal seeking opinion on the post-mortem report in relation to the death of Paresh Mesta on 8th December. On 9th December, the Associate Professor Dr Shankar M Bakkannavar responded to the letter and replied that there is no evidence of injuries caused by weapons over the deceased body. Also there is no evidence of suggestive or nail or pinpricks over the body of the deceased. The tattoo has not been destroyed. There is no evidence on the body of the deceased suggestive of attack using hot water or chemicals like acids. There is no evidence of urine/feces in the oral cavity and no evidence suggestive of rope or any other materials tied to limbs of the deceased. The blisters present over the body of the deceased are due to the putrefactive change and there is no injuries present over the ears of the decease. Also there is no evidence suggestive of assault over the head of the deceased.
