Karwar: The Utthara Kannada district is on high alert since Monday, April 29, as a precautionary measure following the serial bomb blasts in Sri Lanka. The action follows the Intelligence report suggesting enhanced security measures in the southern states.
Bhatkal, considered a sensitive area, is under a strict vigil. The railway station was inspected by the bomb disposal and dog squads along with the police.
Assistant Sub Inspector from Reserve Police, Madegowda is heading the bomb disposal and dog squads and ensuring that no stone is left unturned when it comes to checking the luggage/ baggage in ever railway platform. The railway tracks and the area beneath the platforms too are under surveillance by the squads.
The security is tightened primarily because the crowded trains travelling to Mumbai, Goa, Karwar, Udupi, Mangaluru and Kerala pass by Bhatkal.
