Sirsi’s Kokum mela bags outstanding response

Karwar: The state-level ‘Kokum Mela’ was arranged in the Kadamba Marketing premises in Sirsi. The Mela attracted a large number of people. The producers of kokum products from various parts of the district exhibited their products and did brisk business.

This mela was conducted under the 2019-20 Athma program was a collaborated effort of Kadamba Marketing Sahakari Souharda Samsthe and many other such institutions.

In the mela, various value-added products made of kokum like kokum powder, kokum syrup, kokum mixed chocolate, dry kokum peal, kokum drink etc were exhibited and sold.

Goa Kokum Foundation president Ajith Shirolkar inaugurated the Kokum mela. Speaking on the occasion Shirolkar said that farmers should make use of the hilly terrains of Uttara Kannada and grow more kokum and increase their income. A small town like Sirsi should attract the world’s attention through kokum farming. The farmers should diversify their farming and venture into new ways of farming.

Kadamba marketing president Shambhulinga Hegde, NABARD DDM Yogesh, PR Bhat, Dr Roopa from the Agricultural Science Centre, Ibhavana Singh, Cocum value-added products producer Sagar Gokhale, Amay Kulkarni and scientist Ibo Emino Singh were the other dignitaries present on the stage.
