Mangaluru: The ‘Namma Traffic’ initiative taken up by Dakshina Kannada Police has been implemented on an experimental time-bound basis. The city police have announced a dedicated Whatsapp number to which suggestions to improve traffic and complaints can be sent to.

This initiative has been taken up by the police administration to ease the burden of handling traffic and receive complaints regarding traffic matters from the citizens in a more accessible manner. Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police, Bhushan G Borase said that this technology based idea will help the police solve traffic problems on a simpler social platform by involving the public directly through Whatsapp and Facebook applications which are available on all mobile handsets.

“Confidentiality of the complainants is our priority to avoid social repercussions. Only the Additional Superintendent of Police and the Police Inspector of the control room will be operating this initiative and high amount of secrecy will be kept by them. Since it is a public platform, the police personnel will play an active role and be more alert because of the initiative,” Borase said.

Speaking about the actions that will be taken on the complaints received, SP Bushan Borase said that the police want to work hand in hand with the regional transport authority to send fine slips to violators by post.

General public can send photos and information of traffic violations to the dedicated Whatsapp number and details of the action taken will be put up on the police blogspot.
