Mangaluru: A 10-year-old student of a private school in the city has donated the money she received as a gift on her birthday to the flood-affected.
Sanmati, daughter of Nithin, a section officer in the Pre-University Education Department, granddaughter of Puttur MLA T Shakuntala Shetty, had been reading about the condition of the flood-affected in the state.
She wanted to do her bit to help those in need and so she decided to donate the Rs 10,000 gift she received from her grandmother to the Calamity Relief Fund.
After having celebrated her birthday on Sunday with her family, she arrived at the district Deputy Commissioner’s officer here on Monday before leaving for school, and handed over the cheque to DC Sasikanth Senthil.
The DC lauded the child for her selfless gesture.
