Mangaluru: Finally, a total of 104 acres of DC (Depressed Class) Manna land existing in Mangaluru taluk is likely to be disbursed soon to the beneficiaries of Dalit community as the list of the beneficiaries has been submitted to Deputy Commissioner of the district.
There was huge demand from the Dalit leaders to disburse the DC Manna land claiming that thousands of families in Dakshina Kannada district does not have their own land. Now, measures have been taken to disburse the land to the beneficiaries.
During the quarterly SC/ST meeting convened at Mini Vidhana Soudha on Monday, December 24, Mangaluru Tahasildar Guruprasad said, “a total of 4059 applications had been received seeking land, out of which 465 families were eligible to obtain DC manna land. The beneficiaries list has been submitted to the Deputy Commissioner of the district and title deeds will be disbursed to the applicants once the DC gives permission”, he said.
Meanwhile, Guruprasad informed that beneficiaries were selected as per the guidelines of the government. “As priority needs to be given to the locals residents of the area, preference has been given to those Dalit families which are residing at the same village. Second preference will be given to the same Hobli and last preference will be given to outsiders,” he said and added that those who did not apply for the land, can apply on or before March 2019.
When Dalit leaders complained that the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has not convened even a single SC/ST meeting from a year, despite guidelines clearly stating that meet must be organised at least once in three months, the Tahasildar asked the officials of the MCC to fix a date immediately to conduct the meeting.
Executive officer Raghu Alanahalli, Dalit leaders like Jagadish Pandeshwar, Raghu Ekkar, Keshav among others were present.
