18 CFAL students selected for Second National Level Olympiads

Mangaluru: “As many as 18 students undergoing training at Center for Advanced Learning (CFAL) have been selected for the Second National Level Olympiads,” said Severine Rosario, Principal of CFAL.

She was addressing the media at a press meet at the premises of the CFAL institution here on Monday, January 8.

She also added that Pratyush Prashanth is the topper in Karnataka in Physics, and he is also the second topper in Astronomy along with Shreesha G Bhat.

She further said, “In 2009, after the inception of CFAL, three students of Mangaluru were selected (two in Mathematics and one in Chemistry) for the National Level Olympiads. In 2017, this number has increased to 18. And all these 18 students are undergoing training at CFAL.”

Prathyush Prashanth, topper in Physics, who also speaking during the occasion said, “CFAL helped me get selected in the Second National Level Olympiads. Without CFAL I wouldn’t have qualified. CFAL has taught me to solve higher level problems.”

The students who have been selected for the Second National Level Olympiads are:

Shreesha Bhat of class XII in Physics, Chemistry, Astronomy, Pratyush Prashanth of II PUC selected in Physics and Astronomy, Anish Hebbar of class XI in Astronomy and Mathematics, Shravan Singh Mehra of class XI in Astronomy and Mathematics, Krishna Swaroop of class XI in Chemistry, Samarth M Bhat of Class XI in Mathematics, Suraj S Samaga of class XI in Mathematics, Rahul Balike of class XI selected in Mathematics, Aishwarya A of class X in Mathematics, Alina Pinto of class XI in Mathematics, Y Koustubh Rao of class X in Mathematics, Ankush Moger of class XI in Mathematics, Rahath Rao K N of class XI in Mathematics, V Hema Padmaja of I PUC in Mathematics, Shreyas Vasudev Pai of class XI in Mathematics, Sourav V of II PUC in Biology, Agney Gautham Raj of class IX in Junior Science, and Aditya Thomas of IX in Junior Science.

In 2017, CFAL student Aditya Prakash was one among the six students who represented India in the International Math Olympiad held in Brazil.

The Indian National Olympiad (INO) is a platform for the selection of talented students in the specified subjects and to train and nurture them to compete at the International Olympiads. This National level test selects students from across the country through National Standard Examinations and selection camps, to form a 5-6 members team competing at the International Olympiads.

National level exams like the Olympiads and JEE, help motivate students to strive for a better and deeper understanding of scientific facts and data. It helps them enhance their reasoning, analytical and problem solving skills. Above all, participating in the Olympiad exams and representing one’s state or country at the national and international level is a matter of great joy.

Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education is the nodal centre of the country for Olympiad programmes. The Olympiads Examinations are conducted in subjects like, physics, chemistry, mathematics, biology, junior science and astronomy. The broad goals are to promote equity and excellence in science and mathematics education from primary school to the undergraduate college level, and encourage the growth of scientific literacy in the country.
