2-day Vishwa Konkani Literary Fest from Dec 3

Mangaluru: A two-day Vishwa Konkani Literary Festival is being conducted at World Konkani Centre (WKC) from December 3 in association with Department of Kannada and Culture, Konkani Study Centre, Mangalore University and Faculty of Languages, Goa University.

During the festival a national seminar on “Presence of Mythos and Ethos in Literature” will be held, which will be inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University S L Byrappa. Inaugural talk will be delivered by Geetha Shenoy, eminent writer and translator and the key note address will be delivered by Dr Jayanat Kaikini, eminent Kannada poet and Writer.

On the next day, 4 December, J M Lobo Prabhu and Louella Lobo Prabhu memorial annual lecture session will be held on the topic , “Bonding of Native Ethos and External Influence in Poetry and Literature”. Sampurna Chattarji will deliver a Lecture in the session chaired by Giselle D Mehta , writer and philanthropist.

Soon after, a panel discussion will take place on “Challenges of Modernity and Urbanisation in Native Ethos”. Panelists include Sampurna Chattarji, Dr Kurien Budukuley and Dr Geralyn Pinto where Dr Jayanth Kaikini will don the Moderator’s role.

In the afternoon session, Dr B A Vivek Rai, former VC of Hampi University will deliver a talk on the dialogue between Native Ethos and Modernity in Literature.

In the evening, the last panel discussion will be on the topic “Native Ethos and Indigenous Mythos in Konkani Writing: Yesterday,Today and Tomorrow”, in which Dr Kurien Budhkuley , Dean of Faculty Languages, Goa University will be the moderator. The panelists for this session include Glenis Mendonca,Tanvi Bambholkar,Palia Gaonkar,Svetlana Fernandes and Ambika Kamat.

On 3 December at 5 pm, Vishwa Konkani awards distribution ceremony will take place in the Town Hall where renowned poets, writers, theatre artistes and educationalists will be honoured in recognition of their works.

The awards will be presented by Prof. Malathi Pattanashetty, Chairperson, Karnataka Sahitya Academy in the presence of Vimala V pai, Dr T V Mohandas Pai and Dr P Dayananda Pai and several other dignitaries.

The festival will conclude with the valedictory function on 4 December, where Dr B A Vivek Rai will be the chief guest.
