2nd time this year, customs officials confiscate gold smuggled in passenger’s rectum!

Mangaluru: Customs officials at the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) arrested a gold smuggler and seized 619 grams of gold from his possession on Tuesday, February 25.

The arrested has been identified as Moideen Arzan, a resident of Uppala of the Kasargod district in Kerala. Surprisingly, the gold was concealed in paste form in rubber capsules and was inserted into the accused passenger’s rectum.

Sources from the customs department informed that the gold was being brought illegally to India from Dubai. The accused was arrested when he arrived from Dubai via Air India flight number IX 814. The estimated cost of this seized gold is Rs 26,30,750.

This is the second time this year that such an incident has been reported.

On February 11, Customs officials at MIA seized 633 grams of smuggled gold worth Rs 25,57,320 from the possession of Saifudheen Thekkil Pazhevalappil (23), a resident of the Kasargod. The gold was found in paste form mixed with gum and concealed as four capsules in the accused’s rectum.
