Belthangady: On Saturday November 6, five grenades were discovered near a wire fence at Ilanthila, Belthangady Taluk.
According to sources, Jayakumar, a retired army SCO found the grenades near the left-hand side of the wired fence on his way towards his residence from Uppinangady.
He said that one of the grenades was coated in yellow plastic, and four others were lying on the ground. According to the sources, grenades are estimated to be around 40 years old.
Jayakumar was able to identify the grenades and, realising the threat they posed to unsuspecting animals, brought them to his house’s verandah and afterwards contacted the police.
Jayakumar also filed a complaint with police urging to arrest the miscreants who had thrown explosives beside path to harm people. DK SP Hrishikumar Sonavane told reporters that these grenades belonged to Indian army.
Further investigation is on.
