50 national highways to be upgraded soon: CM

Bengaluru: Work on as many as 50 national highways will start at a cost of Rs 36,000 crore, said Chief Minister of Karnataka, HD Kumaraswamy, on Monday, October 1.

“A total of 3,463 kilometres (km) stretch four-lane roads will be upgraded to six-lane road. The implementation of this project is getting delayed due to Forest Act,” said Kumaraswamy after attending a meeting with the National Highway Authority of India(NHAI) officials.

“These projects have been taken up in the districts of Bengaluru, Chitradurga, Kalaburagi, Hassan and Bellary. The state government will acquire the necessary land, while the NHAI will give financial assistance to these projects” explained Kumaraswamy adding that Rs 8,000 cr will be spent for land acquisition.

“A 10-lane project between Bengaluru and Mysuru will be stated from this month at the cost of 7,000 crores. Initially, at a cost of Rs 3,890 crore 52.7 km of road will be built and at the second phase, 61.1 km of road will be completed at a cost of Rs 3,300 crore,” he further explained.
