79 from DK, 238 others test COVID positive, seven die; Tally 7530, death toll 94

Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district, on Tuesday, June 16, reported a huge spike in COVID-19 cases with 79 new infections, while 238 new cases and seven deaths were reported from other parts of the state. This brings the state’s tally to 7530 and the death toll to 94.

Of the 79 new cases in DK, 78 are Dubai returnees and one has been diagnosed with respiratory issues.

All the Dubai returnees who tested positive for COVID-19 today have been under quarantine since their return. After their throat swabs tested positive for the disease, measures were taken to shift them to the Covid Wenlock Hospital.

Meanwhile, a total of 322 COVID patients were discharged from the hospital today, 11 of whom are from the DK district.

As many as five of the seven deaths reported today are from the Bengaluru Urban district. The other two are from Ramanagar and Bidar.

Patient 5336, a 72-year-old man from Bengaluru Urban and contact of Patient 4317, is the first fatality reported today. He had a known case of diabetes mellitus (DM), hypertension (HTN), and chronic kidney disease (CKD), according to today’s health bulletin. He was admitted on June 6 and died on June 15.

A 60-year-old man from Bengaluru Urban, Patient 7227 was brought dead to the hospital on June 15. No other information on the patient has been provided.

A 65-year-old woman from Bengaluru, Patient 7229 was diagnosed with a severe acute respiratory illness (SARI). She was admitted to a hospital on June 13 and died on June 15.

Patient 7253, an 85-year-old woman from Bengaluru Urban who was diagnosed wit SARI and a known case of DM and HTN, was admitted to June 13 and died on June 15.

The fifth fatality from the Bengaluru Urban district is an 86-year-old woman who was diagnosed with an influenza-like illness and had a known case of DM, HTN CK and ischemic heart disease (IHD). She was admitted to a private hospital on June 10 and died on June 15.

In the Ramanagar district, Patient 7261, a 48-year-old man died on June 15 after he was admitted to a hospital on June 13 and diagnosed with SARI.

Patient 7524, a 49-year-old man from Bidar, is the state’s seventh fatality. He was diagnosed with SARI and had a known case of DM and HTN. He was admitted to a hospital on June 14 and died on June 15.

The break-up of the other cases are: Kalaburagi (63), Ballari (53), Bengaluru Urban (47), Dharwad (8), Udupi (7), Shivamogga (7), Yadagir (6), Raichur (6), Uttara Kannada (6), Hassan (5), Vijayapura (4), Mysuru (4), Gadag (4), Ramanagar (4), Chikkamagaluru (4), Koppal (4), Belagavi (3), Bidar (2), and Tumakuru (1).

As on June 16, there are a total of 2976 active COVID-19 cases in the state. Apart from the 94 death, four COVID-19 patients have died of causes not related to the novel coronavirus. As many as 72 patients are being treated in the ICU.
