Mangaluru: A small businessman hailing from Mangaluru, allegedly got scammed while trying to purchase a second-hand AC. The businessman was trying to buy the AC from a man who claimed to be a CISF official at the airport who wanted to sell all his appliances before going back to his native. The advertisment was posted on a local group in Facebook with his contact details.

Initially, the businessman was asked to pay 20 percent for the AC that costs Rs 16000 as an advance payment, which was promptly paid by the businessman as he was told that he would be delivered the AC, immediately. As assured, the delivery boy called the businessman 15 minutes of payment. Then on the financial dealing and delivery processes was dealt with a man who said he was the delivery boy and in fact seems to be associated with the man claiming to be CISF officer.

Apart from the deal which was made initially, the businessman was asked to pay additional GST amount of Rs. 6,600. When the businessman asked for authenticity he was asked to speak to a man claiming to be an accountant from the CISF. The businessman spoke to the accountant and convinced the businessman. Further, businessman also received a courier invoice.

As the the delivery boy also had informed the appliance can move out of the CISF officials’ premises only after paying the amount, upon receiving the courier invoice with GST from the dealer, which the business man claimed to have looked very convincing and real, he paid the amount.

When the delivery personnel demanded more money for having parked the delivery vehicle beyond the designated time at the CISF official’s place, the business man got suspicious. He immediately stopped the conversation and asked a private expert to trace and block the man’s account, who was posing as CISF official.

Speaking to News Karnataka the businessman said that he was planning on lodging a complaint against this fraud at the local police station.

When News Karnataka contacted the airport, the officials said that there was no such official working for them and they have been receiving similar complaints about frauds.
