Mangaluru: The coalition government has waived off farmers’ loans from the nationalised banks to the tune of Rs 58,37,507 and Rs 114 Crore loan from co-operative banks in Dakshina Kannada district, Janata Dal (Secular) State Vice President M B Sadashiv said.
Addressing the reporters here on Saturday, February 16, Sadashiv said, “The commercial bank loans will be waived off in five phases and that of co-operative banks as per the due dates of repayment. “A total of 14,977 farmers in DK district who availed loan from the nationalised banks would receive this benefit along with 67,624 farmers who have obtained loans from cooperative banks. Though the BJP MLA has sought the details of loan waiver schemes by the coalition government, he is not ready to accept them. Hence, I am placing these details before the media.”
Meanwhile, JDS District President Mohammed Kunhi condemned the ‘Operation Lotus’ attempt by BJP State President B S Yeddyurappa. “It shows the cheap politics by Yeddyurappa and people would teach a befitting lesson to BJP in the coming Lok Sabha elections”, he said.
When asked about the candidate for Mangaluru Lok Sabha election, Mohammed K said that both Congress and JDS would hold a meeting in this regard and field a candidate with mutual understanding.
JDS leaders M P Noronha, Akshith Suvarna among others were present.
