Activist faces abuse on FB for taking stand against ban on ‘Dilwale’

Mangaluru: Hours after a woman activist filed a complaint against right wing activists for forcibly interrupting the latest Sharukh Khan starrer Dilwale, in three of the malls in Mangaluru, many outrageous posts have appeared in social media against this move.
Bajrang Dal leader Puneeth Attavar took to social media forum Facebook and challenged Vidya Dinker and abused her via posts. Soon after his post went public, several comments are said to have appeared, leading to further sharing of the post.

In addition to Facebook, controversial comments using violent and abusive language have also been circulated through messaging app Whatsapp, against the activist.

On December 20, the saffron outfit members forcibly stopped movie goers from watching the movie as retaliation to Shahrukh Khan’s ‘intolerance’ comment.

Vidya Dinker, an activist filed complaint at the Pandeshwar police station against Bajrang Dal leader Sharan Pumpwell and other saffron outfits for forcibly stopping the movie goers from watching Shahrukh Khan starer ‘Dilwale’.

The case was registered based on a memorandum submitted by Dinker who is the coordinator for Citizen’s Forum for Mangalore Development. The memorandum was submitted to the commissioner of police S Murugan on Monday, December 21.

“It is reported that rowdies belonging to Bajrang Dal attacked three multiplexes in the city, namely PVR, Cinepolis and Big Cinemas, which had scheduled screenings of the film and tickets had also been sold for the same. It is reported that on Sunday, December 20 2015, the gangs hurled abuses at the cinema outlets, trespassed into the premises and tore up posters of the film,” the memorandum read.

The activist had expressed dismay on the futile role played by police during such incidences.

“It is always observed that the criminal elements have their way and police intervention is either non-existent, too late, too weak or totally ineffective. A parallel government is being established by these criminal syndicates and citizens are losing confidence in the police and official machinery.”

The memorandum demanded immediate remedial actions such as: Providing security to all cinemas screening Hindi film “Dilwale’, initiate enquiry and coming out with an official statement on the issue, assuring the public that it is safe to visit the cinemas.

It also urged for action to be taken against the guilty parties including their arrest and prosecution as applicable, taking film exhibitors into confidence and ensuring such incidents are not repeated. “Assure them protection for immediate revival of screening of ‘Dilwale’”, it read.
