Mangaluru: The officials of Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) detained a project engineer of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat office when he was allegedly taking bribe money from a person on Wednesday, October 3.

The officer who was trapped by the officials of ACB has been identified as N Nagesh, a project engineer of Integrated Rural Energy Programme (IREP). Sources in ACB police informed that, in order to release the subsidy amount of government under IREP, accused Nagesh allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 from a person, who owns the agency of Bio Gas. Though the agency owner has given Rs 15,000 initially, Nagesh did not release the amount, claiming that the amount would be released only after paying the remaining amount of Rs 35,000. Due to this, the agency owner complained to ACB. As per the plan, when the agency owner handed over a bribe of Rs 35,000 to N Nagesh on Wednesday, October 3, a  team of ACB rushed to the spot and arrested the accused. The raid was conducted by Inspector Yogeesh Kumar under the direction of  Superintendent of Police Shruthi N S and  DySP Sudheer M Hegde, sources said.

A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act and investigation is on.
