ACB sleuths nab village accountant for accepting bribe

Belthangady: The Anti Curruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths apprehended a village accountant (VA) for demanding bribe at Puthila Grama Panchayat in Belthangady Taluk on April 5. The VA was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5000 from a woman.

The arrested official is identified as Harish Kumar.

It is gathered that a woman from Puthila village had applied for sanctioning of government land under Section 94c of the Karnataka Land Revenue Act 1964. The VA had kept her application pending for one year. He had demanded a bribe of Rs 3,000 from the woman to sanction the land. Even though the woman paid the bribe, Harish had not granted the request and was demanding additional bribe.

On receiving the complaint from the woman, a team of ACB officials comprising of ACB DySP Sudhir M Hegde, Circle Inspector Mohan Kottary, Hariprasad, Umesh, Radhakrishna, Prashanth, Radhakrishna D A, Vaishali, Rakesh, Ganesh, under the direction of ACB Superintendent of Police Shruthi N S laid a trap. They have arrested the accused and produced him before the court.
