Sullia: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) police arrested a revenue inspector while accepting bribe for allotting a site under 94 C scheme in Sullia town on August 21.
Revenue Inspector D T Dayananda was arrested in connection with the case.
The ACB officials trapped the revenue inspector while accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 for issuing a sanction letter under the 94 C scheme to the beneficiary Savitha. The ACB team acted on a complaint filed by Harish Kumar of Murulya village in Sullia taluk.
Under the 94 C plan, Harish Kumar’s wife Savita was granted nine cents of land. Earlier, the RI had demanded Rs 15,000 for allotting 9 cents land and later scaled it down to Rs 8,000, it is gathered. According to DySP Sudhir Hegde, ACB sleuths arrested the RI from a car while accepting the bribe in Srirampet area of Sullia town on Monday evening.
Sudhir Hegde told reporters that the car too was seized and the accused will be produced before the third additional district and sessions court in Mangalore. DySP Sudhir Hegde and several others were involved in the operation by the ACB Mangalore team led by ACB SP Shruthi.
There were reports of rampant corruption in allotment of sites for the poor under 94 C scheme. Public aired their grievances during several meetings in Sullia taluk and had expressed their outrage at the officialdom. With the arrest of revenue official, the corruption stands exposed, said locals. The ACB officials admitted to receiving several other complainants from public pertaining to seeking bribes in site allotment and more officials are now under the ACB radar.
