Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada District Crime Intelligence Bureau sleuths, on Saturday April 22 arrested a gang, including the Assistant Commissioner of Police’s car driver for allegedly attempting to dupe people by selling them ‘fake’ pearls as the real ones.

Natural pearls are usually formed when an irritant goes deep within an an oyster, mussel, or clam. As a defense mechanism, the oysters or mussel release a fluid, called ‘nacre’that continue to coat the irritant until a pearl is formed. Since natural pearls have become rare, they command a good price

The arrested are Mohammed Mansoor(27), Badugulipady Ibrahim(35), George VK(35) resident of Nelyadi, Dinesh(29) resident of Kuppepadavu, Mohammed Mukthar(19) resident of Pavoor, Mohammed Naushad resident of Kalvar and Ismail(40) of Nelyadi.

Among those arrested, Ismail happens to be a staff of Home Guard. He was working as Home Gaurd in Uppinangady Police station. It is also gathered that Ismail used to harass vehicle drivers and extort them by misusing the police cap. In view of the harrassment charges levelled against Ismail, he was discharged from duty as per recommendation of Uppinangady ASI Nanada Kumar .

Later, he joined the Belthangady fire service station following which he somehow managed to get the job of driver for the ACP in the city.
