Mangaluru: A two-day national-level aeromodelling competition ‘Aerophilia 2018’, organised by Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management at Adyar, attracted several aeromodelling enthusiasts on Friday, September 20.
The programme was inaugurated by retired naval officer T R A Narayanan. A total of 1750 participants from 31 engineering colleges across eight states participated in the air-show.
Apart from aeromodelling, there were various other events like drone racing, water rocket, chuck glider, Rubik’s cube, paper plane, treasure hunt etc. This competition provided a platform for students to showcase their talents and pursue their passion in their respective unique fields.
This air show also provided learning experiences in mathematics, history, arts/graphics and science.
For the main event – Aeromodelling – participating teams are expected to design a radio-controlled aircraft with limitations on dimensions and the power system during these two days. The aircraft will be evaluated on its manoeuvrability and maximum payload carrying capacity, which will be tested in three successive rounds.
The winners of the various events will be honoured with cash prizes.
The closing ceremony of the event will be held on Saturday, September 21.
Representatives from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Maneesh Saxena and Akhileshwara Reddy also participated in the programme.
