Mangaluru: A 44-year-old person who attempted to murder his wife for not giving him money for consuming alcohol, was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and Rs 16,000 penalty slapped on him by the First Additional District and Sessions Court on Tuesday, February 12.
The convicted has been identified as Ravi of Belur in Hassan district. Ravi was residing at Chembugudde in Permannur village along with his wife Rekha (38). As he was a habitual drunkard, he demanded money from his wife to consume alcohol on July 7, 2017. When she refused, Ravi stabbed her and fled.
A case was registered against him at Ullal police station and a charge sheet filed by the then sub-inspector Prakash Kumar. When the case came up for hearing at the First Additional District and Sessions Court on Tuesday, Judge Sharada upheld the arguments of public prosecutor Raju Poojary Bannady and convicted the accused. The judge also ruled that victim Rekha was eligible to get compensation from the Legal Services Authority.
