Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district unit of the All-College Students’ Union has extended its support to the ‘Karnataka Bundh’ that has been called by pro-Kannada associations on February 13.
Thushar Kadri, district president of the union told reporters here on Monday, February 10, that they would support the bund call as the youth of the DK district are not finding jobs. “Even though several companies set their roots in the Dakshina Kannada district and promised to provide jobs for the locals, they never fulfilled their assurances. Such companies are giving jobs to those who are coming from the other states,” he lamented.
He also urged that there should be a reservation for Kannada speaking people while filling vacancies. “As there is no reservation for local candidates, it is inevitable that we will oppose the move of such companies. Hence, our demand is to implement the Sarojini Mahishi report, which stresses the need for reserving jobs for Kannada speaking people,” he said.
Union leaders Bathish Alakemajalu, Gurudath Malli, Vikesh Bangera, Astel Lobo and Jagath Ekkur were present.
