Mangaluru: It is very common that the women affected by crime hesitate to reveal it with the policemen. Due to this, the culprits get the opportunity to escape from the punishment. Now, with the launch of ‘Rani Abbakka Pade’, the victim women can comfortably complain with this squad comprising women staff only.
The Mangaluru City Police launched this all-women ‘Rani Abbakka Pade’, a squad of 50 women officers on duty. This team is headed by a woman sub-inspector too.
The ultimate aim of this squad is to help women by boosting their confidence. The Rani Abbakka Pade is a group of women police constables drawn from all police stations under the city police commissionerate. They will conduct random checks in malls, beaches and other public places. They aim to protect women from crimes such as eve-teasing, chain snatching, bag snatching, stalking etc.
Eve teasing, sexual harassment, chain snatching among others are very common in public places like beaches, malls, colleges and public transport points. Hence, the city police have identified some critical points in the city which have a good inflow of tourists. The women officers attached to the Rani Abbakka Pade would be deployed in such key points in order to prevent crime against women and address their problems.
Informing about the women squad, Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil said, “With the introduction of Rani Abbakka Pade, the women victims can easily narrate their experiences as the same gender attends them. All districts in the state have been asked to form such women squads to aid women and children to prevent crimes against them”, he added.
