Moodabidri: The outstanding performance by Alvas college students enabled Mangaluru University to bag the overall championship in the 77th Akhila Bharath Inter-university Atheltics Championship held at Coimbatore. The championship was organised by Anna University in Chennai.
Alvas Foundation Chairman Dr M Mohan Alva at a press meet said that the students from Alvas college have given outstanding performance leading Mangaluru University to bag the top slot by record 178 points.
Out of 64 athletes who represented Mangaluru University 55 are from Alvas college. In the championship, Mangaluru University won 12 gold, 8 silver and 4 bronze and what is surprising is that all of these medals have been won by the Alvas college students.
Three records by Alvas students
Dharun(Olympian) 400mtr hurdles, Shrijith, Triple Jump, Haribhaksh in 3000m steeplechase set new records in the tournament. Dharun also won Best Athlete award. Alva added that all the athletes were treated well with all the necessary facilities, medical care, accommodation and food.
